Every mobile gamer knows that portable gaming or mobile gaming is not a new form of gaming. From the golden days of Nokia 3310 we've been gaming on our mobile phones. The endless fun of the mighty snake game is exquisite in every way. And today we have jumped into the modern age of mobile gaming with better graphics, higher frame-rates. The idea of gaming on mobile phones totally snatched away the market share of portable consoles like the PSP and the DS. Developers have found the mobile platform more note worthy than the portable consoles but still some big franchises exists on the portable console department.
Smartphones played the biggest role in the development of games. With much higher processing power the smartphones enabled the developers to push their games to the next level. That's why today's smartphone runs the games which were only playable on consoles and PC (old games). Gaming on mobile phones eliminate the need for another portable console which makes the user to carry a single device. Both the Apple app store and the Google playstore is full of games. The high end games provides the ultimate experience of 60fps in decent device. Games are getting more and more interactive then ever before now you just have the touch based input you also have inputs like Accelerometer , orientation sensor and full size joystick support through OTG.
The most famous titles have over 100 million downloads on both the ecosystems (Android and iOS) Angry birds is the first game to cross the 100 million downloads on the mobile ecosystem. Soon Temple run and Subway surfers jumped into the 100 million category. And games like Candy crush not spoiled Facebook notification they also made it to the 100 million mark successfully.
Earlier most of the good games used to be paid but thanks to the pirates (piracy) who convinced the developers to shift to ad based free games. Now most of the good games are free on both the platforms. Gameloft is currently the king of all developers when it comes to mobile gaming. Other developers like EA, GLU, Warner bros are also good in mobile gaming. Only a few developers provide high end games like Modern combat 5, Asphalt 8, Batman Dark knight rises etc but they are worth a shot. Playing them really feels like that you are utilising your device to highest level.
Ultimately its new shining industry for developers and new place for fun for the users.
